A Columbine student who experienced one of the many High School Massacres wrote it:
"The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings, but shorter tempers; wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints; we spend more, but have less; we buy more, but enjoy it less.
We have bigger houses and smaller families; more conveniences, but less time; we have more degrees, but less sense; more knowledge but less judgment; more experts, but more problems; more medicine, but less wellness.
We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values.
We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.
We've learned how to make a living, but not a life; we've added years to life, not life to years.
We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet the new neighbour. We've conquered outer space, but not inner space; we've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul; we've split the atom, but not our prejudice.
We have higher incomes, but lower morals; we've become long on quantity, but short on quality.
These are the times of tall men, and short character; steep profits, and shallow relationships.
These are the times of world peace, but domestic warfare; more leisure, but less fun; more kinds of food, but less nutrition.
These are days of two incomes, but more divorce; of fancier houses, but broken homes.
It is a time when there is much in the show window and nothing in the stockroom; a time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to make a difference.

That Something

"Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?"
"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to," said the Cat.
"I don't much care where -- " said Alice.
"Then it doesn't matter which way you go," said the Cat.
" -- so long as I get somewhere," Alice added as an explanation.
"Oh, you're sure to do that," said the Cat, "if you only walk long enough."
Quoted from ~ Alice in Wonderland
I am still not clear about about all these...
I know that I am a very messy person. The more people expect of me, the more likely that I will fail them...
I ended up with a degree majoring in applied mathematics. None of you would have expected that I had nearly failed all my Maths tests during my Secondary and Junior College days. Am very grateful to my Maths teachers, Ms Lim and Mr Tan. If not for them, I would not have gotten to where I am.
Ms Lim would make other students stayed back for extra lessons when they failed their tests. However, she disallowed me to join them. She simply gave me the extra worksheets/questions to go home and do and hand up the next day. As for Mr Tan, he allowed me to hand up my tutorials late while he punished the others.
Both of them believe in me. Both of them saw something in me. I thank them from the bottom of my heart. You are the ones who made me.

The Eight Gifts

THE GIFT OF LISTENING
But you must REALLY listen.
No interrupting, no daydreaming, no planning your response. Just listening.
THE GIFT OF AFFECTION
Be generous with appropriate hugs, kisses, pats on the back and handholds. Let these small actions demonstrate the love you have for family and friends.
THE GIFT OF LAUGHTER
Clip cartoons. Share articles and funny stories. Your gift will say, "I love to laugh with you".
THE GIFT OF A WRITTEN NOTE
It can be a simple "Thanks for the help" note or a full sonnet. A brief, handwritten note may be remembered for a lifetime, and may even change a life.
THE GIFT OF A COMPLIMENT
A simple and sincere, "You look great in red", "You did a super job" or "That was a wonderful meal" can make someone's day.
THE GIFT OF A FAVOR
Every day, go out of your way to do something kind.
THE GIFT OF SOLITUDE
There are times when we want nothing better than to be left alone. Be sensitive to those times and give the gift of solitude to others.
THE GIFT OF A CHEERFUL DISPOSITION
The easiest way to feel good is to make other feel good.
